How to Ask Better Tarot Questions

The question you bring to the cards matters more than you might think.

A tarot reading can only work with the question you bring to it.

That doesn't mean there are forbidden questions or that you need to phrase everything perfectly. But some questions leave a lot more room for insight than others.

“Will he text me?” might be the question occupying your brain at 2:17 in the morning.

Fair enough.

But the cards may have considerably more to say about:

What should I understand about the connection between us right now?

The difference is perspective.

A yes-or-no question asks tarot to make a prediction. An open question invites tarot to show you the situation.

And that's usually where things get interesting.

Ask about what you can understand

One of my favorite ways to reframe a question is to replace:

Will this happen?

with:

What should I know about this?

Instead of “Will I get the job?” try:

What energy surrounds this opportunity, and what can I do to strengthen my position?

Instead of “Is my ex coming back?” try:

What should I understand about the possibility of reconnecting with this person?

You're still asking about the thing you actually care about. You're just giving the cards more room to answer.

Don't hide the real question

Sometimes we ask one question while secretly wanting the answer to another.

“What does he think of me?” might actually mean:

“Does he care about me?”

“Am I wasting my time?”

“Is this relationship going somewhere?”

Those are different questions.

Before a reading, ask yourself what you actually want clarity about.

That's usually the better question.

You don't have to sound spiritual

Please don't turn your question into something you would never actually say.

You don't need:

“What wisdom does the universe wish to illuminate regarding the energetic trajectory of this connection?”

Unless that's genuinely how you talk.

You can just say:

“I like this person, but I'm getting mixed signals. What am I not seeing?”

That's enough.

Tarot doesn't need impressive wording.

It needs an honest question.

And sometimes the most useful reading begins when you stop asking the cards to make the decision and start asking them to help you see it differently.
